The Mexican

The Mexican released in 2001 directed by Gore Verbinski starring Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts has an unique plot. The film was written by JH Wyman. The film is about Jerry Welbach played by Pitt and the rollacoaster ride he goes through in order to get a priceless gun transported out of Mexico and into the United States. The gun is an antique piece and most sought after. is a criminal prone to running into trouble at the drop of a hat. He lands into a tight spot where he not only has to save his life but also that of his girlfriends as well.
In the film, The Mexican Jerry Welbach is a low-level Mafia “mechanic”. His lack of skill is almost always compensated by the lucky intervention of Fate. Jerry's girlfriend Samantha played by Julia Roberts, is after him to to get out of this lawlessness. Ever since he commits the blunder of landing capo Arnold Margolese in jail, the mid – level criminal Bernie Nayman also prefers to that he leave this business. Before that Bernie wants him to carry out one last errand before he leaves them to find more respectable employment. That is he is expected to find and recover a rare variety of a gun. The gun is suppose to be carrying a curse with it. For this he would have to go down to Mexico.

Samantha would much prefer he stay out of it. Jerry has not much of a choice but to accept the offer. He heads straight for the border. Once Jerry lands at Mexico he manages to easily lay his hands on the guns. However,in the film – The Mexican more happens than that. On his way home he encounters a host of unexpected surprises.

On the other hand, Jerry's superiors want to be assured that he will return doing the magnanimous task alloted to him. Therefore they hire Leroy to kidnap Samantha. An unexpected friendship develops between Leroy and Samantha. They go to meet him at Mexico. Samantha shoots at Nayman undoing the curse.

The gun is finally handed over to a descendant of the gunsmith by Margolese, who had come to hear about the story of the gun while at prison. It finally reaches the hands of the person who genuinely bears a possession over it.

The Mexican was produced by a group of producers namely Christopher Ball, John Baldecchi and Lawrence Bender. Their film won positive Movie Reviews. It was much appreciated for the unexpected surprise it springs on the audiences towards the end of the film. The film works to an unexpected end.

The film has some of the biggest stars paired together. They have only a few scenes between them . They few scenes in which they are portrayed together are power packed moments in the film.

The film is a unusual blend of a romantic comedy and a picaresque.

The incidents in which the male lead gets embroiled form interesting viewing. Reviews of the film -The Mexican have always been very encouraging.

The violence at the beginning of the film evokes a lot of laughter as also the banter between the lead pair. No wonder Romatic Comedy- The Mexcian has always been included in the list of Romatic Movie Reviews.
