Runaway Bride

Runaway Bride is a romantic comedy of 1999 featuring Richard Gere and Julia Roberts. The film is directed by Garry Marshall. The film was not as sucessful as the previous film, Pretty Woman, made by this trio. Nevertheless the movie was a hit among moviegoers. Julia Roberts plays Maggie Carpenter, an attractive and spirited young woman who had a number of unsuccessful relationships. Maggie, afraid of being married, left a track of boyfriends. She has indeed left three men waiting for her in church on her wedding day getting her tab fame and the dubitable nickname Runaway Bride. Richard Gere played the role a repoter, Ike Graham, working in New York. Ike writes a column about Maggie but it contains several factual errors.
He looses his job for it. He then decides to write a deep article about Maggie in order to get his job back. He travels to Hale, Maryland, where he finds Maggie living with her family and is on her fourth attempt to become married. The fourth would be groom is Bob, a football coach of the local high school. He thinks Maggie to be a mental patient.

After Ike forces Maggie to face her fears, the two find themselves becoming more and more close to each other. The film, Runaway Bride proceeds in the normal line of a romantic comedy. In the meantime, Maggie is set to marry Bob. She does her best to ignore her feelings for Ike. The situation is same for Ike. Being divorced once, he's looking for love as well, but knowing that Maggie must make the decision to be with Bob, he does his best to stay out of Maggie. In the middle of the wedding rehearsal, Bob stands in the place for priest, and asks Ike to stand in the place as the groom. But this proves to be a mistake. When Ike and Maggie practices the kissing right in front of Bob, Bob gets angry. So, Bob punches Ike in the face before storming out of the church.

But on the day of the wedding, Maggie again gets cold feet and leaves Ike, too waiting for her at the altar. As she drives away on a truck, Ike runs after her but can't catch up. Ultimately, the two are married in a private ceremony outside the town on a hill. In the end, they are shown mounting away on horseback. Runaway Bride tells the story of a columnist who is fired by his editor or ex-wife. He tries to redeem himself by tracking a story on specification about a woman who habitually jilts her fiances. The ultimate discovery of Ike that she suffers from an identity crisis led to the marriage of Ike and Maggi. The identity crisis of Maggie is evidenced by her inability to determine how she likes her eggs.
