The plot of Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein is that a guy falls in love with a girl on first sight. He comes to know that she is already engaged to another person whom she has not met and that the person to whom she is betrothed, was the college rival of the guy. In order to win over the girl's affection, the guy pretends to be the person to whom she might be married. The girl not knowing that he is an impostor, falls in love with him only to discover later that he is an impostor. Madhavan is Madhav Shastri in the film, Saif Ali Khan is Rajiv and Diya Mirza is Reena Malhotra. Rajiv stays in America who would marry Reena and was the college rival of Madhav. Madhav poses as Rajiv in front of Reena as he had fallen madly in love with Reena at first sight. Reena thinking him to be Rajiv starts falling in love only to discover that he is someone else.
The story takes a turn when Reena agrees to marry Rajiv even though in the meantime she had fallen in love with Madhav. However like many Bollywood films that are full of drama and action, the movie too ends on a happy note with the loved ones being united and all ending well. The supporting actors are Tanaz Currim who is Shruti in the film and Reena's friend and Vrajesh Hirjee plays the role of Madhav's friend. Madhavan plays a convincing character as Madhav who is blindly in love with Reena who is Diya Mirza. The film was successful due to the wonderful background music and songs. The publicity of the film was done by the melodious songs. The songs became an instant hit and was sung by many leading playback singers.
The title song of Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein had many versions and the music director of the film was by Harris Jayaraj.
