The main theme of Dil To Pagal Hai revolves around Rahul, played by Shah Rukh Khan and Pooja, played by Mudhuri Dixit. Rahul is the director of an eminent dance troupe. Nisha (Karishma Kapoor) is in his group and Rahul considers her as his best pal. However, Nisha has specila feelings for him, though she chooses not to express it.
The story starts to develop when Nisha injures her leg and Rahul starts his search for a new dancer who can play the role of Maya in his dance drama. He stumbles upon Pooja and gets to watch her performance of which she had no idea. Rahul was highly impressed and offers the role to her. Pooja accepts the offer and with time they started enjoying with each other. However, Pooja is a staunch believer in love. On the other hand, Rahul is skeptical about the idea of love. But gradually love starts to blossom between the two.
In spite of that, Pooja is unable to express her love openly for Rahul because she is already betrothed to Ajay (Akshay Kumar). Nisha gets jealous of Pooja. However, she truly loves Rahul and sincerely wishes for his happiness.
To make the situation worse, Ajay unexpectedly returns from abroad. Pooja was unable to tell Ajay about her relationship with Rahul. Marriage is fixed between Ajay and Pooja. In the end, Ajay steps aside and Rahul and Pooja are reunited in a dramatic way.
The music of the film played a very vital role in the success of the film. The songs are soulful and melodious. Some of the chart buster hits are Dil To Pagal Hai, Le Gayi Le Gayi, Aare Re Aare Ye Kya Hua, Bholi Si Soorat, Pyar Kaar, Dholna and many more. “Koi Ladki Hai” with the pavement children is one of the best musical numbers. It also highlights the first realization of Rahul that he is in love with Pooja. The instrumental track is also very impressive. It is well choreographed and helps to express the jealousy of Nisha.
All the characters of the film have delivered a fine performance. The romantic scenes between Shah Rukh Khan and Madhuri Dixit will keep you glued to your seats. The film has won several Filmfare Awards in categories like Best Film, Best Actor, Best Actress, Supporting Actress, Best Choreography, Best Art Direction, Best Music Director and Best Dialogue Writer.
